7. More Than Words
How You Can Help: We're all at home, maybe you could read more! Support the organization by shopping online at their online shop, or via Amazon by searching for the vendor mtwyouth.
Though their work looks and feels different today than it did just last week, their mission is the same: empowering and showing up for our youth. More than Words is both an online and brick-and-mortar book and home goods store with locations in Boston and Waltham. More importantly, the organization is a job training and youth development program that empowers nearly 350 youth each year to take charge of their lives by taking charge of our $4M bookselling business. They work with the most vulnerable young adults in Greater Boston: those who are in the foster care system, court-involved, homeless, or out of school. At More Than Words, they earn a paying job, working approximately 20 hours per week in our businesses learning critical customer service, technology, inventory management, and leadership skills.
What are they doing now? They continue to stay in touch remotely with the young people they work with, whether remotely through donated technology or by making sure that they are safe and fed. They are also continuing to pay their young people and connecting them with the resources to help during these times.
