The Brookline Booksmith (originally named the Paperback Booksmith) opened in 1961 and is located in Coolidge Corner. Brookline Booksmith has grown over time, serving the unique and diverse community of Brookline.

“Booksmith has a deep magic all of its own, far beyond any one person's power to shape or control,” said Lisa Gozashi, co-owner of Booksmith. Lisa has worked at the Brookline Booksmith for 20 years; before becoming a co-owner, she worked on the floor and as a manager. We had the pleasure of sitting down with Lisa to learn more about her and her favorite aspects of Brookline and the community. Lisa raised her family in Brookline and told us her favorite aspects are that Brookline is a “beautiful, livable town, best of amenities… we love the green space… it is such a livable city.” During her many years working in the local community, she highlighted that Brookline is a really unique community, and said that “the reason we are as successful as we are is customers and the collaboration we have.”  She talked to us about the beauty of the diversity within the town, and that “there some 70 countries and nearly 50 languages represented among the  2000 + high school students at BHS (Brookline High School). The diversity of the community is her “most favorite aspect of Brookline.”

Offering more than wonderful literature, the Booksmith also has great gifts, cards, and knick-knacks. They also host frequent events, such as the Transnational Literature Series which highlight the diverse community and support different diverse groups.
